Into the Forest: What Do We Have Left?

October 4, 2016 by Jacob Sahms Leave a Comment

intotheforrest

The latest dystopian thriller, Into the Forest, finds sisters struggling to survive in the woods after a great power outage. Set in our near future, the sisters, Nell (Ellen Page) and Eva (Evan Rachel Wood), fend off an assorted variety of situations and threats to their safety.

Director Patricia Rozema moves the pieces around, generally providing feelings of tension but otherwise resulting in a pretty standard, independent-ish thriller. If you can accept the vibe of The Walking Dead-lite (minus the zombies), and dig the Page/Wood combo, then you’ll probably like this.

Ultimately, movies like this ask, who are we when all of the trappings are stripped away? What do we look to for hopefully when nothing else makes sense? Those are the moments when we define who we are and who we’re supposed to be. For Nell and Eva, all of that comes to a head in the forrest.

Special features include the Behind-the-Scenes featurette and audio commentary with Rozema (who also wrote the script).
