Hoppers is a vibrant, heartfelt Pixar film that blends high-concept imagination with surprisingly mature themes. At its center is Mabel, a passionate young environmentalist who finds herself experiencing the natural world from a completely new perspective. What unfolds is not just an adventure story, but a layered exploration of empathy, accountability, and coexistence.
While the premise may remind some viewers of a certain popular ongoing sci-fi film mega-series (that rhymes with ‘Blavar’), Hoppers distinguishes itself by avoiding a simplistic humans-versus-nature narrative. Instead, the film digs into how pain and misunderstanding on all sides can spiral into conflict. One of the story’s most compelling thematic threads involves a character whose desire for revenge stems from personal loss. The film doesn’t excuse destructive behaviour, but it does show how unresolved grief and anger can distort justice into extremism.

Importantly, Hoppers also emphasizes accountability. When harm is done, even unintentionally, an apology alone doesn’t automatically repair trust. The film suggests that reconciliation requires more than words. It requires changed behaviorr, collective action, and a willingness from both sides to move forward. That emotional complexity elevates the story beyond a standard environmental message.
Another major theme is power. Different leaders in the film represent different philosophies: retaliation, domination, collaboration, and shared survival. Through this, Hoppers explores how easily righteous anger can morph into control or destruction when empathy is lost. The message feels especially relevant in a world where polarization often replaces dialogue.

Finally, the film beautifully questions whether perfect communication is necessary for meaningful connection. Technology plays a role in bridging understanding, but ultimately the story leans toward a more human (and animal) truth: coexistence is built on intention and trust, not flawless translation.
Colorful, funny, and emotionally sincere, Hoppers delivers both entertainment and substance. It’s a film about protecting nature but even more so, it’s about protecting relationships before anger turns them into something unrecognizable.
Hoppers is available in theatres on Friday, March 6th, 2026.
