Snatched – When Your Best Friend is Your Mother

August 15, 2017 by Jacob Sahms

In?Snatched, Amy Schumer’s Emily Louise Middleton gets fired from her job (which she’s terrible at) and dumped by her boyfriend (which she tries to play off as her own decision). She returns home, licking her wounds, to the delight of her brother (Ike Barinholtz) and the sorrow of her mother, Linda (Goldie Hawn). With two non-refundable tickets to Ecuador, she drags her mother off on an adventure they’ll never forget.

Unfortunately for the audience, this is a road trip that we’ll soon forget, because it never quite makes it to the funny level that we expect of Schumer. Sure, it’s nice to see her crossing swords via repartee with the legendary Hawn, but the fact that they’re tangled up in a trafficking scam doesn’t really lend itself to making it any funnier, even when Wanda Sykes and Joan Cusack get involved. The final words of this adventure seem to be about how women don’t need men to make them feel good – as one woman passes on her message of surviving betrayal to her daughter.

On the Blu-ray combo pack, deleted scenes, extended scenes, and alternative scenes add to what Schumer fans will see, as well as Jonathan Levine’s (50/50) directorial audio commentary. Yes, there’s a gag reel…
