1 thought on “What They Had – Family Struggle of Dementia

  1. Thank you for sharing. My mother began her decline in her 40’s. There was no family near so my father and local people shared the burden. Few services were available in Southern Indiana where they lived. It became clear when he was almost 80 years-old tbat he couldn’t do it alone so I brought them to my home in NH to live with me. Dad realized our situation wouldn’t work so they moved to an assisted living facility nearby that helped. Dad could do what he could while staff took care of mom. Everything went very well once I could see my mother as a friend. She always knew my dad was her husband. God took her home quietly and peacefully after 10 years in NH. Oddly enough, my father was diagnosed with alzhiemers that year and passed away the next year at the age of 90 years. We had some great times together once a week at their place with their new friends.
