Drama, drama, drama.

In Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, the women of #MomTok are back and they are not ready for what’s coming. After last year’s ‘soft-swinger’ scandal, an original member of the crew returns, leaving the sisterhood in shambles. Suddenly, the women’s loyalty is tested as the allegations begin to fly. Then, as the crew attempt to separate truth from lies, several of the men who hurt them return to try to make amends… or do they? As the new episodes unravel and they try to fight for the soul of #MomTok, the sisterhood must navigate the wreckage of their relationships.

In the new episodes, the women of MomTok are dealing with the fallout from the numerous scandals that plagued their lives last season. The ‘soft-swinging’ group tries to break down the truth and lies regarding what took place. Zac and Jen are wrestling with the Chippendales event. And, of course, Taylor and Dakota are trying to figure out what parenting means for their relationship.

Drama, drama, drama.

But, with the drama done, the second season of Mormon Wives takes a surprising approach. Rather than sit in the craters left behind by their broken relationships, the series instead tries to find ways to make things work. Although he’s clearly still got issues, Zac is genuinely trying to change for the sake of his marriage. The questions of ‘soft-swinging’ have definitely caused damage between them but the women actually try to work things out for the sake of #MomTok. Here, there’s a genuine acknowledgement that forgiveness is a path to healing. Having grown up in the church, they still see the value in the teachings that they received. As a result, forgiveness remains a viable solution to their problems, so long as they can get to the heart of the matter.

After all, “if you want to get back into #MomTok, you have to be willing to tell the truth.”

But, in the same way, Mormon Wives also shows their struggle with their church upbringing. Even though they’re navigating the relationship drama that drives their lives, their also burdened by the shame placed upon them by their beliefs. Conversations about their expressions of sexuality carry the weight of church expectations. As one of the #MomTok crew opens up about the sexual abuse they suffered, they speak about how they weren’t believed by their mother. And, of course, those that remind them about forgiveness can be viewed as offering a flippant response to genuine trauma. (For example, should Taylor actually give Dakota a second chance based on what he did? Or should she simply walk away?)

Although Mormon Wives plays out like any other reality series, it’s these questions that add an extra layer to its characters. Instead of only being a show about the next party—the next dramatic twist—these women are also trying to figure out who they are and what they believe as well. (But, don’t get me wrong. There’s plenty of the tension that makes these series popular. Just wait for the Hallowe’en party.)

However, it’s that tension that still adds something a little bit extra about them that make the show more interesting than pure emotional firepower. They’re not an example of every Mormon wife. (This series isn’t a systematic takedown of the Mormon church by any means.) But that experience informs who they are and creates different challenges for their journeys together. And, frankly, that’s even more interesting than the drama.

The second season of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives begins streaming on Disney+ on Thursday, May 15th, 2025.
