Whew! The Watchers is a creepy take on the fact that no matter what you think, your life doesn’t stay secret. Someone is always watching you, and just because you lie to yourself (and everyone else) doesn’t mean that the truth isn’t out there.
Now that we got the heavy stuff out of the way, how about some fun? This bit of filmmaking feels a lot like an M. Night Shyamalan movie, and that’s fitting because it’s directed by his daughter Ishana Night Shyamalan. If scary movies in the vein of The Village or Signs are your thing, then I think you’ll dig this one.
Starring Dakota Fanning, Georgina Campbell, and Oliver Finnegan, it has Shyamalan fingerprints all over it. Maybe you’ll figure out what’s up here, or maybe you won’t; just be clear that not everything is as it seems. I don’t really dig scary movies, but I’m okay with creepy ones with a message, so The Watchers worked for me.
If nothing else, it’s a startling reminder to think about what you do in secret and if it’s really secret or not. You probably won’t pay the price that the people in the film do, but there’s a price to be paid when you think you’re getting away with something, only to find out you’ve been caught.
Because someone is always watching.
