Although ScreenFish exists primarily as an online source for conversations and reflection on pop culture, film and television, we also pride ourselves in working actively in our respective communities. As ScreenFish continues to grow and develop, we’re always looking for new opportunities to engage and empower the stories of others. These are just some of the ways that we are seeking to reach and support those in our areas.

Resonate
From January to June 2024, ScreenFish was involved in the development of ‘Resonate’, an arts program devoted to empowering New Canadian immigrant youth. Funded by a grant from the Canadian Federal Government, Resonate offered opportunities for immigrant youth ages 11-15 to learn from professional artists in their areas of expertise. During that time, the youth were able to learn what it takes to perform live with the team at Mirvish, create their own music and films from people active within the industry and learn the power of the image through photography, collage and sketching.

Community Film Events
In 2025, ScreenFish has begun to develop public film screenings that support marginalized communities. First, we are excited partner with LevelFILM and Route 504 PR to screen Karen Chapman’s Village Keeper in celebration of Black History Month. Plans are currently underway for future events this year.

Partnerships
It continues to be a joy of ours to help share our love of cinema with others. Partnering with amazing companies such as The TARO Group, we also look for opportunities to invite local New Canadian immigrant youth to promotional screenings of blockbuster films such as Sonic 3 and Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.

reVision
ScreenFish is also committed to connecting people to meaningful conversations through the lens of film. During ‘reVision’ nights, we enjoy film screenings within group settings and engage the ideas within the film with in-depth discussion.
