Young Sheldon – The Complete First Season: Child Prodigy

It’s 1989 and Sheldon Cooper is leading the life of a nine year old. Well, a nine year old who is so brilliant that he’s attending high school, alongside his football-playing older brother, Georgie, creating rivalry in a whole new sibling way. George and Mary Cooper do their best to raise the boys, and Sheldon’s twin Missy, alongside Mary’s mother Meemaw, but what’s a Texas family to do with a forward-thinking genius who can’t even eat off of the adult menu?

Spinning out as a prequel from? The Big Bang Theory,?Young Sheldon?is a funny, wry look at what Jim Parsons’ character’s childhood looks like. For fans of?BBT, this is the one character whose backstory has been most inferred within the show (yes, we know Penny was a partier and that Leonard has an overbearing, psychoanalyzing mother, but still) that informs the quality and texture of?BBT. Getting more Sheldon was potentially a … no-brainer.

With twenty-two episodes, a featurette on Sheldon’s origin story, and a look at the sibling rivalry in “Sibling Revelry,” Warner Bros.’ blu-ray combo pack delivers all of the laughs of this prequel. Audiences who missed this on CBS can catch-up before the second season rolls out, with spots from Billy Gardell, Melissa Peterman, Annie Potts, Bob Newhart, Ray Liotta, Richard Kind, Jason Alexander, Cleo King, Michael Cudlitz, and Elon Musk. While all of these add to the mix of what the show reveals about Sheldon, this is the ultimate truth of the show: Sheldon has a unique perspective on life, bound up in his intelligence, and he can’t help but share it with you.
