TV Screened: Blindspot (1:1) – Is This The Next Blacklist?

Jamie Alexander and Sullivan Stapleton star in Blindspot

Imagine waking up and not knowing who you are. Now imagine you wake up in the buff, inside of gym bag, in the middle of Times Square, with police surrounding you. Hard to imagine right? Well that’s how Blindspot starts off, and the rest of the episode is piecing together a puzzle that was meant to be solved.

Jane Doe (since we don’t know her name) appears to be a victim, but as the show goes on, we realize she is much more. Is she a victim? Is she part of whatever is happening? Who tattooed her? And if her body is a set of clues to try to stop certain events, what is the end game? And who is the man in the shadows? These are the questions we are left asking after the first episode. I for one tend to be drawn to a show that has so many questions to it with a mystery underneath. Early critics call Blindspot the next Blacklist (also on NBC), and although I felt this first episode was very well done, that is a tall order to fill. However, they are off to a great start and Jamie Alexander (Lady Sif from Marvel’s Thor films) is exceptional.

Blindspot draws upon many questions, but the real one is this: what do we do when we’ve lost ourselves? I mean, to the point we don’t recognize ourselves. We can stay in a state of shame or pity, or we can choose to do something. If continue to go the same route, we will continue to be lost, but when we start making different choices and taking a different road, things can start to turn better. ?”Let your eyes look directly ahead and let your gaze be fixed straight in front of you. Watch the path of your feet and all your ways will be established. Do not turn to the right nor to the left; Turn your foot from evil.” Proverbs 4:25-27. Maybe we should consider this path in order to find ourselves rather than continue the road where we lost ourselves.

Blindspot airs Monday evenings at 9pm on NBC.
