Blue Bloods – The Eighth Season

Blue Bloods?has a comfortable feel, like the way you expect Mr. Rogers to take off his shoes, to be wearing a sweater. It stems from the (mostly) calm presence of Tom Selleck as NYC Police Commissioner Frank Reagan, who leads the protection of his city and the care of his family with the same measured approach.

The Reagan family is four generations deep, with Len Cariou as the retired commissioner, and then Frank’s children, Danny (Donnie Wahlberg), Erin (Bridget Moynahan), and Jamie (Will Estes), bringing their crime-fighting struggles home to Sunday lunch at the Reagan estate. Mix in Erin’s daughter, Nikki (Sami Gayle) and Danny’s children, especially after the loss of his wife this season, and there are plenty of young people seeking advice from the elder Reagan. This show?is?about family.

But family isn’t only by blood, biological, as Jamie’s cop partner, Eddie (Vanessa Ray), and Danny’s detective partner, Maria (Marisa Ramirez), become crucial parts of the show. They’re at the core of the show, even as CBS guest starred Whoopi Goldberg, Ernie Hudson, and others throughout the season. The impact of Danny’s wife’s loss is the emotional chord that runs through the season, even as Erin ends up tangling with her ex-husband.

Special features include the look back over the season with cast and crew, a featurette “Blending In: The Visual Effects,” deleted scenes, a gag real, and a bonus episode each from the pilots of Bull and SEAL Team.?
